about

The drone begins enfolded in a fog of white noise—a swirl of baritone brimming beneath the horizon. Here and there, beams of blue and orange, red and purple light shoot out across the heavens. A high end howl pierces through the din. A smattering of clouds passes slowly overhead.

This is Morning Mist—the Going In debut from Italian producer/DJ/auteur Donato Dozzy. Written long before the inception of Going In, this record nonetheless captures the essence of the label. Asking little of the listener, the elements are simple but enveloping; a thirty minute meditation for the early hours, when the world has not yet risen, when the calm of night still hangs upon the fields like wet dew and the whispers of the dreamworld still linger in the waking mind.

Composed in his living room with a Jupiter 08, an octatrack and a 16 channel mixer, Dozzy set out with simple intentions: to create something peaceful and meditative. Inspired by a friend and his cat—whose morning routines include listening to transcendent ambient records—Morning Mist accomplishes its primary task of lulling you into trance. For 30 minutes and 44 seconds, it does just that, beckoning the listener deeper into the moment, dissolving the boundaries of time. It’s a composition that does more with less—faint melodic murmurs swimming in a deep drone, a constant swirl of slowly panning white noise, a nearly imperceptible low pass filter revealing further timbral layers and an unobtrusive crescendo that passes as calmly as it builds.

Here, Dozzy offers the listener a simple edict: get comfortable and get lost in your world.
