about

A deep well begins to rumble in the cave depths. A swell of sub bass bubbling over and out. Spilling into a procession of sanguine chords. From the waves something emerges. A steady pulsation of ebullient light. A slow-building epiphany. A birdsong. This is Litha, Clay Wilson’s first outing for Going In.

Here, the Brooklyn-based producer, DJ and member of The Bunker New York family draws on his roots in improvisation and jazz stylings, offering up an hour of hi-fi collagist ambience—a meditation on sunlight and seasonal transitions.

Unfolding in three significant movements, the album courses along on a thread of bright yellow synth pulses, culminating in three heart-opening crescendos. The music feels like a rebirth. Hum along and you’ll find yourself overcome with something like renewal.

Referencing the Pagan celebration of Midsommar, Litha is an offering of abundant sonic light. Recorded in disparate segments in late winter of 2021, Wilson sought to evoke the sensation of release that comes with the first warm days of the new year. A feeling of presence and of possibility. Remaining firmly out of the box, Wilson relied exclusively on a Waldorf Blofeld and Octatrack for recording and composition. He eventually performed the hour-long piece as part of Going In’s stream in late March.
